
Gilbert “Buzz” Silverman is a leading Midwest-based real
estate developer, entrepreneur and investor. As Chairman and CEO of
the Silverman Companies headquartered in Bingham Farms, Michigan, Silverman
Companies predecessors and affiliates have developed more than 25,000
multi-family and single-family units valued at well over one billion
dollars, ranging from affordable to ultra-luxury. In 1997, Silverman
ranked as the top builder in Michigan, as well as one of the
top nationally.
In March of 1999, continuing the success, Silverman orchestrated the
merger of the homebuilding division of the Silverman Companies with
Toll Brothers, Inc. (NYSE: TOL), the nation’s leading builder
of luxury homes. After assisting with the integration of Toll’s
Midwest homebuilding operations in 2001, Mr. Silverman returned full-time
to the Silverman Companies where he chairs its real estate, development,
construction and property management businesses.
Over the years, Silverman has assembled one of the Midwest’s premier
real estate portfolios. In addition to chairing the Silverman businesses,
Mr. Silverman is an owner of Amurcon, one of the most respected apartment
management/ownership companies in the Midwest. Founded in 1967, Amurcon
boasts 33 prime multi-family properties with nearly 200 associates,
4,900 apartments and more than 10,000 residents.
Mr. Silverman’s career has encompassed a wide spectrum of development
in the Midwest and elsewhere throughout the United States. Additionally,
Mr. Silverman has compiled a substantial track record with many financial
partners, including Bank One, Comerica, Northwestern Mutual Life, Prudential
Insurance Company, Metropolitan Life, Aetna, Teachers Insurance and
Annuity Association and Acquest Realty Advisor on behalf of the Carpenter’s
and Operating Engineer’s pension funds.
Mr. Silverman’s career path began early with his interest in manufacturing
and construction. After attending University of California-Berkeley,
Mr. Silverman began working in the real estate business in the 80’s.
In 1996, Mr. Silverman was the youngest person ever to serve as president
of the Building Industry Association, one of the nation’s largest
and most influential real estate associations. He is a frequent contributor
to various real estate publications, seminars and
universities throughout the United States and works on a number of institutional
real estate consulting assignments.
Mr. Silverman contributes considerable time and talent to several community
and charitable organizations, and serves on numerous boards including
the University Cancer Foundation, On My Own of Michigan and The Greening
of Detroit. Mr. Silverman also acts as an advisor to several outside
corporate boards.
Mr. Silverman resides in Michigan, USA with his three children.
